In Week 5 of Term 2 our class focussed on how to write great information reports.

We wrote about the planet Mars as we are in the middle of learning about Planet Earth and Beyond. Learning how to write a great information report will help us with our self-guided topics in a few weeks time.

Here is my writing, after I have self-assessed and peer-assessed my work.

Introduction

Have you ever know we're Mars get its name from. Mars is a planet that is 687 days away from the Sun. Mars spins on its axis for 24 hours and 37 minutes.

Is there any astronauts on Mars?

Mars is Named after the roman gods story.

Appearance:

Mars is named after the roman god of war and Mars has a reddish glowing dust.

Mars is a planet that have a red dust and Mars is a rocky planet to live.

The reddish colour of mars is caused by the presence of rust in its sandy soil.

Could humans live on Mars?

It would be very difficult for humans to live on Mars. There is no magnetic field to reflect radiation from the sun. This would give humans skin cancer. No humans can live on Mars because Mars is much colder than Earth. Mars has a thin atmosphere and there is no oxygen, so humans would not be able to breathe. Lot’s of people never reach to Mars because it’s a planet that’s far away. Extremely Mars has a terrible dust storm which that can be hard for people to live.

What’s Mars orbit?

Mars is the 4th planet away from the sun. With a diameter of 6,7094, Mars is a little over half the size of Earth. Mars is 56 million km away from us. Mars is approximately 227.9 km’s away from the sun. It takes 27 days for Mars to orbit the sun. Unforgenchly Mars is estimated to be one-ninth as heavy as the earth. Mars has a frozen polar caps and canyon called Mariner Valley.

Mars Moon

Mars has two moons but their names are Deimos and Phobos. Those who live in about 50 million years will never get to see it. Every hundred years it moves almost about two meters closer to the surface of Mars. Eventually, it will crash into a planet or be ripped apart. Mars has at least three known moons.

Surface Features

Astronomers call Mars “The Red Planet”, because of its colour. When it is bright, Mars is easy to recognize because it shines with a orange red colour.

The Orbit of Mars

Even though Mars is our closest neighbour, its orbit is very different. A Martian day (or how long it takes to rotate once on its axis) is longer than an Earth day and equals 24 hours and 37 minutes. This is because it spins slower than our planet. Moreover, a year on Mars is the same as 687 Earth days! Imagine if you lived on Mars, you would be almost half the age you were on Earth!

Conclusion

Sometimes people think that Mars is a planet that people can travel around. Mars can be a planet that's hard to find in your way but if you want to go to Mars you need to research about dangerous in Mars. Sometimes Mars is a planet that’s dangerous than you ever thought.
